Bainbridge Island Real Estate

Summary
Bainbridge Island Real EstateFor those that live here, Bainbridge Island is the best place in the world to live. A small town that offers big things. Just a 30 minute ferry ride from a thriving downtown Seattle, Bainbridge residents enjoy an unparalleled rural environment. Bainbridge Island has a rustic village atmosphere, lovely gardens and winding roads, some of the best schools in the state, a lively artistic community, wonderful parks and walking trails, and a history worth preserving. Bainbridge Island is the main link from Seattle to the Kitsap Peninsula. A bridge at the north end of the island crosses over Agate Pass to connect Bainbridge Island to the rest of Kitsap County.

Known for its lively artistic community, Bainbridge Island has its own Performing Arts Center, movie complex and arts & crafts gallery featuring local and regional artists. On weekends tourists enjoy shopping in historic Winslow and a visit to the Bainbridge Island Winery as well as some of the trendiest cafes and restaurants. On Wednesday evenings there are concerts in the Waterfront Park, and on Saturday is the Farmer's Market in Winslow where many island based businesses sell their goods.

22,000 residents call this 28-square mile island home and enjoy its convenient access to Seattle. The population in general is very well educated with nearly 50% having college degrees. Approximately 40% of the island residents commute to downtown Seattle. It is an easy relaxing commute to Seattle where many sit and read the paper, eat breakfast, catch up with work on laptops, or visit with friends during the ferry ride.

Many families seek out Bainbridge for a lifestyle like no other. Where residents believe in the community and fight hard to preserve its rural character. Where the public and private schools are ranked as some of the best in the state. Where the crime rate is one of the lowest in the state. Where there is no limit to the number of outdoor activities a person can participate in. Where every home is different and has its own custom character. Where a person can jump on a ferry and be in downtown Seattle in just 30 minutes.

Bainbridge Island has an excellent medical center with superb private practice physicians, and an incredible emergency response team. If a person requires immediate hospitalization, Bainbridge has an emergency system whereby patients can be airlifted to a variety of mainland hospitals in a very short time, or driven to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, only a 30 minute drive. Bainbridge Island has a full time Fire Department and over 60 volunteer fire and rescue workers.

Climate
Similar to Seattle, Summer temperatures average about 70°; the winter average is 42°. There is approximately 37.2 inches of rainfall annually, with an average snowfall of 10.9 inches. This can vary as much as + 10 inches, depending where on the island you live. This is due to our geographic location in relation to the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges. The average length of the growing season is 180 days.

History (Detailed)
Pristine Bainbridge island was home to the Suquamish Indians for thousands of years. Forests and beaches with abundant wildlife supported their peaceful culture.

In 1792, Captain George Vancouver discovered our small island. His British Survey of Puget Sound described the lush beauty of his newfound gem.
